Ecuador awards hydroelectric consulting and launches dispatch tender

The Ecuadorian state-owned utility, Celec, awarded a one-year contract to Dueroing to update the country’s hydroelectric potential for medium and large-scale projects (over 25 MW).

The work involves reviewing 10 of the 20 projects identified in 2018—with a combined capacity of 9 GW—as part of a broader renewable energy analysis to mitigate low water levels in the Amazon region.

The specific tasks include drafting an action plan and reference budgets, as well as preparing the terms of reference for the studies.

The other bidders in the process launched in July were Soluciones Técnicas Integrales Enerpro, Consorcio Laoc Energía (Lombardi-Andina), Ingenieros Consultores Civiles y Eléctricos (Ingetec), Universidad de Cuenca, Energy and Environmental Consulting Consultora de Energía y Medio Ambiente, Kawsus, and Consorcio APDA (Diseño, Consultoría e Interventoría Cajamarca, Sánchez, Vallejo Dciproy).

Meanwhile, Celec's transmission unit, Transelectric, launched a tender to acquire goods and related services for dispatch infrastructure, which will include lines and substations as part of an energy matrix replacement program funded by the IDB and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The tender is divided into four lots with a combined reference value of $63 million, according to the tender notice. Bids must be submitted by December 28 at the latest.
